Agriculture exists at the very root of human tradition, as a cultural practice, where years of observation in nature showed nomadic groups how to nurture life in the wild. Our hunger lended an early outlet for bottled up creativity, which flourished in the rich palette of global landscape. The result is a diversity of agricultural expression that extends far beyond the field. Each society is the shared perspective of growers, artisans and consumers alike comes together to create a unique cultural heritage. — Our goal at Star Bright Farm is to celebrate that experience by hosting interactive workshops to share how the collective knowledge of artisans in our region influences the landscape.


Cooking with Lavender Workshops

During the Star Bright Farm Holiday Market on Dec 1st, we will be hosting breakout sessions on cooking with Lavender. Classes will be taught by award-winning cookbook author Nancy Baggett, who most recently wrote "The Art of Cooking with Lavender". There will be 3, one hour long classes throughout the day, where guests will explore some of Nancy's recipes and cooking techniques on how to best unlock the flavor of this lovely herb in your kitchen. Signed copies of this lovely book will be available for sale after class.

Nancy Baggett is an award-winning cookbook author, culinary lavender expert, and popular speaker who teaches classes and demonstrates cooking with lavender at festivals, lavender farms and markets, and garden clubs around the country. She gave the Keynote address and also presented a “lavender tasting ” workshop at the U. S. Lavender Growers 2017 convention. She also conducted a day-long intensive culinary lavender seminar at the Sierra-Nevada Lavender and Honey Festival in 2018. She has written on cooking with lavender for national publications, including Better Homes and Gardens, Country Gardens, and The Washington Post.

Nancy’s latest cookbook is The Art of Cooking with Lavender, a beautiful, full-color 80-recipe work that won an Independent Publisher “Books for Better Living” award.  The book has gotten rave reviews from many lavender growers and is a popular item in their gift shops. Nancy has written sixteen other cookbooks, including her best-selling The All-American Cookie Book, an International  Association of Culinary Professionals and James Beard Best Cookbook nominee,  and The International Chocolate Cookbook, a Best Baking Book winner.
