Memorial Day Grilling Kick-Off

Memorial Day weekend is considered the unofficial kick-off to summer, complete with endless bug spray and impromptu grilling of anything that can withstand a flame.

Here at Star Bright Farm, we tend to center our summer meals around what we grow and harvest from our own fields - heavy on the fresh vegetables and herbs, chasing whatever is ripe and cooking it to perfection. We delight in styling our outdoor dining space with simple fresh cut flowers and new and vintage dishware that sets a mood for casual, yet intentional, meals.

Like you, our family has several go-to cookout foods like deviled eggs, burgers, chicken seasoned with our hydrosol and fresh herbs, and traditional potato salad laden with chopped sweet and dill pickles.

Asparagus is abundant this time of year and thus a common ingredient at our table. Before grilling our asparagus, we prep our stalks by placing them in boiling water for three minutes then plunging them into ice water to stop the cooking process.

We brush them lightly with olive oil, salt and a squeeze of fresh lemon or a spritz of our Lemon Thyme Hydrosol and then place them on the grill. These few preliminary steps eliminate that fibrous texture while still keeping that brilliant green color.

Ok, enough! Our mouths are watering just writing this.

As we prepare our grilling stations and outdoor entertaining spaces for the season, we are highlighting a few items from our Barn Market that were specifically chosen for form and function. For example, our enamel trays are oven AND dishwasher safe and look great piled high with meats and veggies.
